Investments

Advising on and arranging investments is a major part of our activities. People invest for many different reasons. For some this will be long term capital growth, maybe for retirement. For others income is important, but in all cases a comprehensive understanding of the individuals life and future objectives is essential in order to arrange a portfolio which will best serve their long term needs. Circumstances also change and it is for this reason that a long term, close relationship with a financial professional is so important.

Many factors are taken into account before an investment portfolio is recommended. For example, an individuals' views on investment risk will be a major consideration, and tax implications, whether on income or capital gains, will have to be especially considered. The wrong choice could make an otherwise sound investment inappropriate if the tax implications will erode the benefits. We recognise that no two people, or families, are alike and great care is taken to tailor our recommendations to our clients’ specific needs.

Investing in real assets is important for the potential for long term capital growth and/or income. These investments can take many forms and can include Unit and Investment Trusts – which offer a wider spread of risk and at lower cost than investing directly into the Stock Market. For some though, a portfolio of shares will be appropriate but in each instance ‘equity’ type investment offers the prospect for real returns which should at least out-perform inflation. Other types of investments include Gilts (lending to the Government), Fixed Interest Securities and property. The right mix will depend upon an individual’s circumstances and their objectives for the future.
